I went to see the exhibition Aware: Art Fashion Identity  last week and attended a couple of the Salons they had organised. Only a few of the works really struck me; overall I did not feel blown away and thought that there was no sign of an innovative, deeper approach to the theme of art and fashion interactions, which many have tried to explore. However, there was one very powerful and provocative piece in leather by Fashion Professor Dai Rees: Carapace: Triptych, The Butcher’s Window. Resembling animal carcasses in a butcher’s window, the piece was created from customised 1950’s Vogue patterns, crafted from thick leather and detailed marquetry. "The suspended sculptural skins extend our awareness of garment construction and embellishment, and heighten our sensitivity to the significance of craftsmanship"
